Going all in on my dreams
and what that requires
Recently, I finished the book “The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth About Extraordinary Results” and it was eye opening. The gist is that success comes from laser focus and specificity with your goals. I know my journey of building out my vision for Gugu Guru and Mom Creators has been unnecessarily extended - for lack of a better way to describe it - because of my frequent lack of focus and seeing anything through.
While I have no idea if I have ADHD - it’s certainly possible - I do know we live in an attention economy and Shiny Object Syndrome is very real. Over the last 10 years of building my company, I have very often jumped from project to project, pivoted and shifted often. I have so many ideas, dang it! And while that can be a good thing (pivoting is probably the reason we are still around today), it can also be detrimental in many ways.
Because of this, I am making the commitment now to go all in on my dreams of building the largest community of mom content creators and influencers in the world. I want to help one million moms get in on the creator economy - not just virtually but in person too because moms need IRL connection and community. I give myself the grace to be a beginner again. I give myself the grace to learn. I give myself the grace to fail. However, not giving it my total focus is not something I will allow.
As a first step, I have to separate Gugu Guru and Mom Creators. It’s not going to happen overnight and I am not going to force it to - but it makes no sense to couple these two things any longer. They serve two totally different audiences: Gugu Guru serves mom-focused brands and Mom Creators serves mom content creators and mom influencers - under the bucket of “creative & entrepreneurial moms”.
Last summer, I created a new corporation for Mom Creators to get things moving in the right direction. I will be using this Substack as effectively the website for Mom Creators. It’s funny - I know it’s the right thing to do, yet I still have some fear about it. For example, we have several thousand mom creators over on Facebook in a private Facebook group. I have concerns about those moms coming over here to Substack. But, hey, if I know one thing for sure, it’s that things always work out the way they’re supposed to.
